Kindermusik is the German word meaning children's music, and for over 30 years children have experienced the joy of creative expression through this unique musical learning experience. Research now tells us what we intuitively knew all along: that cognitive, social, and emotional development begins in a newborn's very first days of life and from the very beginning we can do much to stimulate that growth in very natural, loving ways. Through age-appropriate group lessons children explore rhythm, melody, listening, movement and instruments. Kindermusik's wonderful curricula allow the child to learn and develop at his or her own pace. Classes are offered to children from birth through six years old and class size ranges from four to ten, allowing us to have visitors as well as do make-up lessons.
Kindermusik Philosophy is founded upon rigorous research and our fundamental beliefs:
- Every parent is the child's most important teachers.
- Every child is musical.
- The home is the most important learning environment.
- Music nurtures a child's cognitive, emotional, social, language, and physical development.
- Every child should experience the joy and fun of learning music.
Village (Birth - 18 months)
The parent or caregiver attends a weekly 45 minute class with the baby and together they participate in vocal play, object exploration, and creative movement based on the Village curriculum. They learn about the importance of using their voice with the baby and how to bring the joy of music into their homes. As the children develop their motor skills, they are able to begin exploring movement and instruments.
Our Time (19 months - 3 years)
The Our Time curriculum brings the joy of music and movement into the lives of toddlers and their parent or caregiver. The class meets weekly for 45 minutes of singing, chanting, rhyming, sound identification, moving, listening, and instrument exploration. The class is designed to help your child improve confidence, self-control, and communication skills.
Imagine That (3 - 4 years)
The Imagine That curriculum is designed for that crucial period when the child moves from receptive to expressive learning. The child begins to teach you a few things, Imagine That curriculum pairs music with expressive language, storytelling, peer interaction, movement and pretend play. Fascinating musical exploration helps children become accustomed to being in a one hour weekly class without their parent or caregiver but with 4 to 10 of their peers. The parent or caregiver is invited to attend the last few minutes of class.
Young Child (5 - 6 years)
The sequential learning activities in Young Child broaden and deepen the musical experience for the child. Young Child continues the musical journey with a pressure-free approach that includes exposure to various types of multicultural music. Weekly the students explore many facets of the musical experience including singing, moving, listening, creating, and playing percussion instruments. They also learn music notation and musical symbols. Children also begin learning to read and write music along with playing the glockenspiel, recorder, and dulcimer. This class truly prepares the student for future instrumental lessons.
Family Time (Birth - 6 years)
Bringing children of all ages together provides a dynamic and integrated learning experience for every one. So we took favorite Kindermusik songs and activities like "Shak, shake the Apple Tree" and "hammocking" and rolled them into a fun, famiy class where each child is welcomed and valued and family "together time" is celebrated and cherished. You will experience singing, movement, story time, playing instruments, and learning musical concepts in each class.
